In Cyprus, luxury hotel launches a “weather deal” that’s unique, to say the least

A high-end hotel on the island of Cyprus is turning the local weather into a real selling point: it promises a free night’s stay in case of bad weather.

Located in the Cypriot city of Limassol, the five-star “City of Dreams Mediterranean” hotel has just launched its brand-new “sun guarantee” concept. The offer is simple: if the weather isn’t nice during the day, guests receive a free night’s stay to be used on a future visit.

The financial risk remains limited for this luxury hotel, as the island enjoys exceptional sunshine, with between 300 and 340 sunny days per year.“With nearly 340 days of sunshine, City of Dreams Mediterranean invites you to enjoy the perfect climate for your vacation, with our promise of the best possible weather. Warm temperatures and clear skies are present almost all year round on the island.”

And while the rest of the European continent hides away and bundles up in winter clothes as early as November, temperatures in Limassol still exceed 25°C before starting to rise again in February.

A free night, provided that…

This promise of a free night, however, is based on a strict set of rules. For a day to be considered sunny, the Cypriot hotel requires that the sun shine at least 70% of the time between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Daily sunshine is measured with great precision. The data collected is recorded and updated weekly in a weather calendar accessible to guests.

We want to give our guests complete confidence when booking their stay. With this guarantee, our guests know they’ll enjoy Cyprus’ famous climate, and if not, they’ll be compensated.”

This initiative allows the resort to stand out and attract customers’ attention amid the increasingly fierce competition among luxury properties in Cyprus.
